Candy Experiments 2
As a homeschooling mom, I’m always on the lookout for fun ways to incorporate new things into our daily lessons, and when I saw Candy Experiments 2 on Netgalley (along with our bowl of not-yet-eaten-Halloween Candy on the counter) I knew this one would be a ton of fun! And I was right! (I have also since added Candy Experiments, the original book to my Kindle!)
I suppose I should add that my homeschooler is 6 and in first grade – so I need to keep our experiments on her level! (Which is pretty easy to do with this book!)
This book covers most science topics including: Color, Sink and Float, Blow it Up, Squash It, Hot and Cold, Dissolve This!, Crystals and Sticky – (Of course you can probably leap into which technical section they would fit in, density, acidity, etc!)
Each Experiment tells you what they are trying to accomplish, how long it will take and how hard it will be! (Along with detailed instructions and explanations – with some great questions too!)
An example, “Color changing gummies?” is an “easy” activity that takes “several hours” – it has 3 steps and requires 3 ingredients (“real fruit juice” gummies, water and baking soda. As you complete the experiment, the book walks you through what is happening and why. (And my six year old LOVED this one!)
One thing I LOVED for older kids is that there are science fair ideas too! This book is great for kids of all ages, and even mom and dad can get in on the fun! At the time of writing this review, we’ve completed about half the experiments in book 2, and are having a ton of fun working our way through the leftover Halloween Candy! I give this book 5 “stars”!
