As I am setting my goals for next year (how is it 2015 already??) I am realizing that I need to declutter my life and my house in a BIG way! So when I saw Kathi Lipp‘s new book, Clutter Free: Quick and Easy Steps to Simplifying Your Space on Netgalley? I was thinking maybe this was just what I needed!
I am one of those people who keeps EVERYTHING. (I’m not to hoarder status yet, don’t worry! You won’t be seeing me on the next season…) Every few months I go through and just donate/trash/sell EVERYTHING. And one of my goals for next year is to break that cycle. I’m also captivated by the idea of a minimalist lifestyle! (Although I’m pretty sure it’d take a huge miracle to get my mindset into that of a minimalist.)
Clutter Free was a fairly quick read, 224 pages of personal examples and the usual advice on deciphering if you truly need an item or not. But this one goes deeper than that, it goes into a spiritual aspect that I can’t help but love. One example that jumped out at me:
When my house is so messy and cluttered that I don’t want to do the things I believe God has called me to (loving my family, working, preparing meals, spending time with him), then there’s a problem. On the other hand, when I’m spending so much of my time making sure my home is perfect that I don’t have time for those things God has called me to, that’s a problem too.
This book is about finding that magical balance, drawing your own line for what’s acceptable and what’s not. Both with your time, and your posessions.
While it sometimes feels like all of these “Declutter” books say the same thing? Kathi Lipp has a fresh perspective and a great voice for motivating you to get off the couch and get working!
