Way back in January my kid sister called me, bragging that she’d just purchased this awesome new pedometer that tracked her sleep, would wirelessly sync with her iPhone and had the ability to tack calories from it’s app as well! She couldn’t stop talking about how fantastic this new bracelet was, so I had to try it for myself!
I purchased my Jawbone Up24 in March (a birthday gift to myself) and have worn it religiously since. I love this product so much that I’ve decided to review it!! (I also have the Fitbit Flex, which I’ll review in a week or two as well – and do a complete comparison of the two products!)
The Jawbone Up24 retails at $149.99 and is available in six colors: Red, Navy Blue, Lemon Lime, Onyx, Persimmon, and Pink Coral. (At the time I purchased mine, Persimmon and Onyx were the only colors – and with Orange being my favorite color? I chose Persimmon!)
The charge ont he Jawbone UP24 lasts about a week – I find six days and I’m tossing it on the charger! It charges quickly, I’ll usually plug it in and then take a quick shower. By the time I’m out? I’ve got another six days charge!
The original Jawbone UP has a variety of other colors available and syncs by plugging into your headphone jack – where the UP24 Syncs via bluetooth. The original UP was recently price reduced to $79.99 and the plug-in sync is the only real difference! (My mom has the original, where my sister and I have the UP24, and we have compared regularly to be sure that’s the only real difference!)
Now, let’s jump into my thoughts on this awesome product!
First, the technical stuff! I have compared it to several other pedometers, and have found the step counter itself to be fairly accurate! (I find it to be more consistent than it’s main competitor, the Fitbit Flex.) I also love the app interface! It’s simple to use, brightly colored and I love looking at the graphs!
I love the sleep monitoring as well. I have no clue how entirely accurate it is, I’d love to see it compared to an actual sleep study! But as far as I can tell? It’s pretty accurate with my times I fall asleep and my times that I am awake during the night. And really? That’s all I expect – to me the sleep tracker is merely for fun – and if I wanted a genuine sleep study? I would contact my doctor.
The social aspect of the UP is also something I love! My mom, sister and neighbor all have the UP, so I love logging into the app and seeing where they are in their daily steps! (I love to cheer them on, and leave comments on their daily progress!)
The other thing I really love about the UP24 is that the software syncs with My Fitness Pal and a variety of other health and fitness websites and apps, making it easy to track my actual exercise (vs just my steps) and my food intake!
My only complaint is that it’s not always the most stylish accessory! And I love wearing it at church (I’m the assistant sound tech) where I spent about 20 hours a week on my feet, walking, moving, etc! I’ve done some looking and found this adorable hack to Dress UP your UP! ! (Involving jewelry wire, which I have a ton of!) But I haven’t tried it yet – I just let the congregation deal with my bright orange bracelet!
In my opinion? The UP24 was definitely worth the $150 I spent for my nifty wrist band! I love tracking my steps, my calories and my sleep!
